Conserving Cyclura ricordii 2007

Abstract

The recovery of C. ricordii is part of Grupo Jaragua’s program to conserve biodiversity in the biosphere reserve in the southwestern part of the Dominican Republic, thought to be one of the most diverse sites in the insular Caribbean. Work is conducted in close coordination with the Dominican Government, integrating community-based local municipalities, national, and international organizations. During 2007, Grupo Jaragua continued to survey nesting activities of Cyclura ricordii. A land tenure study in the Pedernales region was undertaken, and we began the investigation of population densities.
