Show full item recordAbstract: | This guidance is intended to contribute to the ongoing discussions towards the adoption of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. It illustrates the contribution of mangrove ecosystems towards the achievement of multiple goals, targets and associated indicators towards the achievement of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework’s vision of a world of “Living in harmony with nature”, where by 2050, biodiversity is valued, conserved, restored and wisely used, maintaining ecosystem services, sustaining a healthy planet and delivering benefits essential for all people. Mangroves play a vital role in contributing to climate mitigation, adaptation, coastal resilience, and disaster risk reduction through carbon sequestration, coastal protection and mitigation of erosion and flood risk, as well as biodiversity conservation, livelihoods and food security through provision of habitat to fish and other wildlife. This guidance provides scientifically robust data and resources for consideration by countries in national monitoring and reporting and identifies opportunities to effectively capture the contribution of mangroves in the monitoring of progress towards achievement of the 2050 vision for biodiversity. |
