Report on the status of styrofoam and plastic bag bans in the Wider Caribbean

Abstract

Plastic pollution is one of the most relevant and important issues of our time. There is increasing consensus among the public and private sectors, environmental NGOs, and civil society that current production and consumption patterns of single-use plastics have severe economic, social and environmental consequences. Policies are being introduced to regulate the production, import, and use of plastic bags and styrofoam products. This report presents the key aspects of these policies and regulatory instruments that have been implemented in the Wider Caribbean Region. It provides lessons for policy makers who seek to regulate the use and production of disposable plastics.
