Success story : Blue Stations Santo Domingo

Abstract

This fact sheet presents the Blue Stations project, implemented in Santo Domingo Este (Dominican Republic) by Parley for the Oceans as part of the PROMAR initiative, which addresses the critical issue of plastic pollution in the region—characterized by inefficient waste management systems that lead to the accumulation of waste in open dumps and water bodies. Since 2022, the project has established collection stations equipped for receiving and storing plastic waste, complemented by electric tricycles that facilitate door-to-door collection. In addition, an awareness campaign was launched under the slogan “I recycle, I’m blue,” promoting community engagement. Results include the collection of 9,000 kg of plastic waste over 1.5 years and the active participation of more than 800 households. The project has also formed strategic partnerships with local institutions and NGOs, strengthening its implementation capacity and expanding its impact. Content: 1. Overview -- 2.
