Steps towards a more sustainable future after the pandemic : protecting pristine mangrove forests and supporting local livelihoods in the Dominican Republic

Abstract

The TUI Care Foundation's Marine May Programme highlights the critical importance of marine conservation at various sites, including the Dominican Republic. In collaboration with the Bávaro Reef Ecological Foundation (Fundación Ecológica Los Arrecifes de Bávaro), the TUI Care Foundation aims to protect over 560 hectares of seascapes. This effort includes zoning and demarcating the area with five dedicated TUI Care Foundation buoys. Additionally, the programme features awareness workshops and coral gardening initiatives to train local beach workers and fishermen in safeguarding the region's marine environment.
