AbstractThere has been a rapidly growing interest across the Caribbean region in utilizing stranded pelagic sargassum as a primary resource for developing uses, turning this hazard into an opportunity. This study is a thorough investigation of the current and potential uses of sargassum within the Caribbean in order to share progress and lessons learned and to provide a directory of researchers, innovators and businesses that are currently working with this macroalgae to develop economically viable products and solutions. This guide has been developed as a resource for researchers, business entrepreneurs, and policy makers by providing, under one cover, a comprehensive overview of the wide range of current uses of sargassum in the Caribbean and challenges faced to date. It also provides insight into potential uses based on examples and research from other parts of the world using different sargassum species or other seaweeds.es
