Abstract | Dominican Republic has executed few initiatives regarding a national information system for MRV. However, those initiatives have usually been limited in scope, focusing largely on reporting through national communications and biennial update reports to fulfil the international reporting requirements. In this context, there was a need for the establishment and implementation of a robust and sustainable MRV system, supported by a coherent regulatory framework, tools and long-term funding. This is where the ICAT project came in. ICAT has taken advantage of different projects already implemented and their respective outputs. Still, a nationally based capacity to develop and maintain a national MRV system, and a sustained process for greenhouse gas (GHG) emission Inventory, remained lacking. The main outputs of the ICAT Dominican Republic phase 1 project were: 1. Analysis of the current situation and development of a full proposal for National MRV/Transparency System; 2. Development of the draft text of the Decree to be submitted to the executive power. | es |
