Abstract | The International Development Research Center (IDRC) and its Caribbean counterparts have been experimenting with innovative approaches to coastal resource management in the region. One very promising approach is community-based management or "co-management". Co-management approaches involve the users themselves working in some form of collaborative or shared management with government authorities. Although most Caribbean countries share the same ecosystem, there has been very limited collaboration among them in the management of the region's natural resources. This book is a great opportunity to share the results of this type of work, as it explores the problems of coastal resource management and offers possible solutions on a pan-Caribbean scale. | es |
