SinopsisThis profile provides a snapshot of the energy landscape of the Dominican Republic, a Caribbean nation that shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti to the west. In 2014, the Dominican Republic’s utility rates were approximately $0.19 per kilowatt-hour (kWh),1 below the regional average of $0.33/kWh. Like many island nations, the Dominican Republic is highly dependent on imported fossil fuels, leaving it vulnerable to global oil price fluctuations that directly impact the cost of electricity. This document includes: Electricity sector data; Clean energy policy environment; Energy efficiency and renewable energy project; Opportunities for clean energy transformation.es
